With this blog I will work to research what the framers did (and did not) have in mind when they drafted the Second Amendment. I will research the language of the Second Amendment, and the meaning of the words and phrases in that time.
I will also research what people had to say in that time frame about weapons, self-defense, militias, armies, the people versus the government.
And I will be debunking various myths that we hold today.
Mainly, I created this blog to help myself organize my research efforts. So, while my goal is to eventually produce a big overarching history, the blog entries will be bite-sized pieces of research.
To that end, I'll also be compiling an ever-growing list of references.
Here's a possible list of articles (subject to change as I move forward):
- State Constitutions (forerunners of the language of 2A)
- Articles on definitions, cultural understanding of:
- well-regulated
- keep and bear
- people
- infringed
- The debate over and evolution of 2A in Congress
- Investigations of popular modern citations
- Militias and Standing Armies
- Overthrowing the government
- Militias versus standing armies
- Supreme court cases
